Alvin McCall is a Doctoral Candidate at the State University ofNew York at Stony Brook where he studies with the distinguished master cellist, Bernhard Greenhouse.

Mr. McCall has performed in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Academy of Music in Philadelphia and has performed solo and other concerts in Boston, Cleveland, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, Switzerland, Germany and France. He serves on the music faculty of the University of Wisconsin.

As winner of several competitions, Mr. McCall has appeared as soloist with the Great Neck Symphony,the Manhattan Orchestra,the Housing Authority Symphony,the Municipal Concerts Chamber Orchestra, the Stony Brook Chamber Orchestra, the North CarolinaSymphony and with the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, In Moscow, U.S.S.R. he was a finalist in the VII International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Mr. McCall has participated in the master classes of such masters as Leonard Rose, Gabor Reijto, Bernard Greenhouse, Anner Bylsma and Zara Nelsova, the later master class was sponsored by the Violoncello Society of New York. Mr. Greenhouse said of Mr. McCall,

"I believe him to be one of the most talented cellists in America, and I foresee a splendid future for him. His playing is not only technically first rate, but extremely musical and sensitive." "At Carnegie Recital Hall, Alvin McCall's playing was lyrical and inventive, his tone lustrous. Accompanied by the capable Jan Deats, Mr. McCall opened his program with a soulful arrangement of Bach's chorale prelude "Savior of the Nations, Come," built into one rapturous melodic line."
