Take a Trip on the Santa Fe!
When the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad decided to bypass one of its namesake cities, the city leaders of Santa Fe decided to start their own short line to Lamy, NM the nearest AT&SF station to Santa Fe, NM.
That Railway still operates today, both as a working freight railroad and a scenic run with vintage passenger cars such as the 1158 shown here which was built in 1922 and the Lamy Plaza, built in 1950, one of only 6 Dome/Lounge cars delivered to the Santa Fe Railroad.
For many visitors, the railway is the only thing they know about Santa Fe before they come here. They hum the 40's swing song "The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe," and they point excitedly to the familiar Santa Fe herald, the blue cross in the circle.
